Senior Lab Technician
The main duties will include:
1. General care and maintenance of apparatus and equipment used in laboratories.
2. Preparation and maintenance of stock solutions required for use in the Science Faculty.
3. Ordering of equipment and chemicals and keeping such records of stock and breakages as the Head of Faculty and Headteacher may require in accordance with COSHH regulations.
4. General care and maintenance of aquaria, plants, etc. and attention to livestock (as and when it is being kept in the laboratories) in accordance with Health and Safety requirements.
5 Keeping self and others up-to-date with safety requirements as directed by the LA, HSE and COSHH and attending the relevant training courses.
6. Overall Line Management responsibility for other Laboratory Assistants, deployment of their time to ensure safe and effective operation of the Faculty.
7. Responsibility within the Science Faculty for Data Logging and ICT equipment. Maintenance, servicing and setting up of such equipment to enhance practical activities.
8. Overall responsibility for developing apparatus for all Key Stages in liaison with the Head of Faculty.
9. Organising the setting up of practical investigations and help with the organisation of the equipment during practical work if required.
10. Assisting in the setting up of demonstration experiments and the issue of apparatus and materials required for class use.
11. Assisting with practical lessons under the supervision of classroom teacher – particularly with pupils with Special Needs.
12. Keeping the accident report book up-to-date.
13. Organising the clearing away, washing and cleaning of apparatus used in the laboratory.
14. Maintaining work surfaces and benches in the Science Faculty in a safe, clean and tidy condition. Reporting relevant issues to the Site Manager.
15. Repairing of apparatus in accordance with instructions, within the safety requirements of HSE, LA and COSHH.
16. Organising maintenance of equipment and other storage areas to ensure equipment and apparatus is stored correctly, efficiently and with relevant accessibility for classroom use.
17. Preparing and maintaining resources/displays/teaching aids in and around the Science Faculty.
18. Repair textbooks and other printed resources as and when required.
19. Ensuring provision of requirements for the Science Faculty.
20. Maintenance of electrical apparatus within the Science Faculty in safe working condition.
21. Attending weekly meetings with the Head of Faculty to discuss priorities and items for action.
