Mathematics at Sidney Stringer School
The Mathematics faculty is one of the most successful and effective in the school with value added performance in the city and nationally in the top 0 -1% at Key Stage 3 and in the top 10% at Key Stage 4; in a recent HMI report mathematics performance was described as 'verging on exceptional educational performance'. This results in many students opting for AS/A level mathematics at post-16: currently there are 4 AS/A2 groups with Further Maths being taught to a smaller group of Y12 and Y13 students.
The Mathematics faculty is a strong team and staff work closely together to share best practice and to support each other. Professional development of all staff is a priority (as it is for the school). The faculty has an Advanced Skills Teacher and a Lead Practitioner for the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust. For many years we have recruited highly qualified staff and our relationship with Warwick University initial teacher training has benefited both parties. Improving Teaching and Learning are continuing school priorities: Mathematics staff have long been at the forefront of development of innovative and creative approaches which are aimed at raising student achievement - and the success of these is borne out by results.
Accommodation was refurbished in 2004 and shares a large teaching block with English, Social Sciences and Modern Foreign Languages. Two suites of classrooms occupy two floors. All classrooms have interactive whiteboards with access to laptops for students, and each member of staff has a laptop.
Responsible to: Director of Teaching and Learning: Mathematics.
The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff & volunteers to share this commitment.
