Our Client is looking for a Software Design Engineer (GPS Firmware) to join the team in the Daventry area

Our client is searching for an experienced self motivated engineer to join the GPS Systems and Software Group to help with the design, development and testing of its core GPS software intellectual property. The team is responsible for developing solutions for the company’s range of GPS, A-GPS, GNSS products primarily focused at the cell phone and PND markets.

Responsibilities Will Include:
• Design and implementation of new features on the GPS Measurement Engine.
• Design, implementation and support of communication protocols and communication interfaces
• Implementation and testing of new algorithms running in assembler or high level language (C).
• Together with the architecture team, development of GPS Signal Processing Algorithms.
• Support of customer releases and verification activities


The suitable candidate will have experience and skills in the following areas

• Technical:
o Software Assembler coding on embedded platforms (eg ARM or DSP)
o Software Programming in C on embedded platforms (eg ARM)
o Signal processing
o DSPs – Use of industry standard DSP
o Real Time and Embedded Software design & development
o Knowledge and of use of Configuration Management and Revision control systems

• Desirable:
o Familiarity of structured analysis/structured design methodology
o Implementation knowledge of GPS
o Familiarity with DSPs (teaklite family an advantage)

• People and Business:
o Ability to work autonomously as well as a member of a small team (2-10 people) essential.
o Good communication skills
o Quality documentation & status reporting
o The ability to manage workload to deliver results on time

• Other:
o Full Driving Licence
o Able and willing to travel worldwide to meet customers and partners

• Educational/Professional Requirements
o Bachelors Degree or equivalent in Electronics Engineering
o Significant professional experience in an engineering environment


Salary £40 to 50k DOE
