Assistant Curriculum Leader of Ks4 English
We are seeking to appoint an Assistant Curriculum Leader of KS4 English for January 2010 to join us at Hartshill School - a Science and Arts Specialist school. Hartshill is a rapidly improving, ambitious school, with a strong sense of community and very high expectations of all. This year GCSE English Language results rose from 43% A*- C in 2008 to 60 % in 2009. Literature results also rose significantly in 2009 with 69% achieving A*-C. Despite our success over the last year in particular, we are a forward thinking, enthusiastic, creative English department looking for further challenge and ways in which to push our performance to higher levels.
We are looking for an Assistant Curriculum Leader of KS4 English to work with the Subject Leader to improve the quality of learning and teaching at Key Stage 4. Applications are invited from enthusiastic and innovative committed to further raising standards. We require a highly skilled classroom practitioner with excellent people skills to take our results at KS4 to the next stage.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for specific tasks in the department and will assist with the monitoring of learning and teaching, KS4 data analysis, standardisation and work trawls. The role will involve contributing to the continuing professional development of KS4 staff, assisting in/leading departmental meetings and discussion and helping to prepare KS4 departmental development plans.
The department consists of 9 specialist English Teachers and has recently become part of the Communications faculty, along with MFL - the two will link together to improve the quality of language teaching within the school. The English department has forged strong links with the Maths department, particularly at KS4, where joint intervention has seen a substantial rise in the percentage of % A*-C including Maths and English. The English department at Hartshill is therefore a high profile department with much to offer - and we are excited to embrace the journey ahead.
